H&M springs into Fall 2012
Fashion-types—especially fashion editors—are always three months ahead of the curve, sometimes six months depending on which season. It’s an anticipation that becomes routine, looking ahead at the calendar, getting excited about the Holidays in July. Fashion nerd facts: Chanel’s Resort 2013 collection debuted today, and fashion’s Swedish Mecca H&M ushered in Fall 2012 last week. The first day of summer is June 20, 2012.
With grey springtime skies stirring outside, H&M presented a delightful collection of autumn selects inside its Toronto press headquarters: tweeds, knubby knits, pleather-leather and a variety of bedazzled pieces perfect for a Holiday night out on the town (read: glittery skirts, dresses and even a harness). One accessory had me cruising down memory lane: a ’90s-inspired embellished baseball cap complete with giant faux-jewels. I had one when I was 10 years-old: it was pink with rainbow charms, I wore it while riding my bike. To me, it was a proverbial fashion middle-finger. “Sparkle or bust,” it screamed—in my mind anyway. I gave it away years ago. I want it back so badly. Now begins the sad search through every Goodwill and Value Village in Toronto. Sadly, the ’00s came and for some reason bejewelled hats became tacky, and bellbottoms became cool (I blame you Spice Girls).
Anyway, I digress. Bravo to H&M for bringing back the bedazzle. And may I please introduce you to what will almost definitely be my new hat this fall. Isn’t she beautiful?
