Canada launch: J.Crew

There are some things in life that, when they happen, are truly special: like a double rainbow, or when you shoot a scrunched up paper ball into a waste basket and actually get it in, or find a $20 note in the pocket of a pair of jeans you haven’t worn in a while. Just special, you know? A ‘Wow, that’s awesome’ moment. I liken this special kind of feeling to when I found out weeks ago that J.Crew was opening a Canadian store. Not only are they opening one in Toronto (my hometown) but they are unveiling it at Yorkdale Mall in August. Someone call the paramedics, this fashion sleuth is floored.
Think about it for a second: when J.Crew first became available to Canadians, fashion forward Canucks would have to comb through J.Crew’s inspired catalogue to get their hands on the brand’s wares, in fact, many would make trips south of the border to try and buy (some still are). And when online shopping kicked in, a wave of e-shoppers clicked their way to J.Crew’s sweet separates (oh, those cashmere sweaters! Free shipping on $150+? Yes, please!). Now it almost seems like a dream–could this really be happening? Jenna Lyons, president and executive creative director of J.Crew, says yes.
“We’re so excited to be opening our first J.Crew store in Canada,” said Lyons, in a press release. “We’re in the process of finalizing the look and feel of the store to be sure it’s the absolute perfect backdrop for our carefully edited collections.”
The womenswear -only store (sorry boys) will offer everyday classic designs along with weekend, outerwear, bags, belts, jewellery and shoes: “a carefully edited selection of women’s-only clothing and accessories.”
I’m so excited to welcome J.Crew to Canada and peep its new 5,000 square-foot retail space myself–the opening party promises to be an event not to be missed!
