Uniqlo x Lady Gaga, Lagerfeld, et al.
Editorial chutzpah for charity: according to WWD, Uniqlo and Condé Nast Japan have come together along with 10 notable names (read: celebs and fashion icons) to create Japan-inspired T-shirts for charity. Proceeds from the T-shirts will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross to help survivors of the earthquake that hit Japan in March 2011. At $19.90 USD a pop, Uniqlo expects that about $1.2-million will be raised in support of relief efforts.
And the A-list roster? Lady Gaga, Karl Lagerfeld, Blake Lively, Charlize Theron, Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz, Cyndi Lauper, Victoria Beckham, Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltow and Orlando Bloom. In addition, WWD reports that $12-million USD from Uniqlo chairman and CEO Tadashi Yanai will pad the charitable donations garnered from T-shirt sales, a sum that is in addition to the amount already raised–$8.5 million in clothes and $3.6 million in funds–which Uniqlo gave promptly after the disaster occurred.
